PCOS Support Group

I want to thank all of those who attended the diet presentation on Tuesday (Low glycemic index diet for women with PCOS). Everyone I talked to expressed an interest in forming a local PCOS support group. LET'S DO IT! It would be such a great forum for education and support! I will email everyone who came to the presentation this week and start getting an idea on what night(s) would work best for the support group. Dr. Lunt and Kvarfordt are happy to let us use our office for now. We may need to find a bigger location as the group grows.

I will be at the What Women Want Expo in St. George, UT this weekend. Stop by our booth (we are promoting PCOS awareness and have information on our clinic). We are raffling a couple copies of The PCOS Workbook, by Angela Grassi, RD and Stephanie Mattei, PSY.D.

Thanks,

Lisa

Since many women are affected with PCOS, there is a large demand for dietary counseling. To address this need we are offering a free presentation with three convenient times. Seating is limited. Please do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity!

"The PCOS Workbook"

Thank you for your response to my last blog. Several people have expressed an interested in becoming involved in a local Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) support group. I am working on the details, and will keep you updated.

I found a really comprehensive, yet easy to understand book about PCOS. It is in the form of a workbook, and is designed for people with PCOS. It is called "The PCOS Workbook your guide to complete physical and emotional health." It is authored by Angela Grassi, MS, RD, LDN, and Stephanie B. Mattei, PSY.D (a dietician and a doctorate level therapist). It explains PCOS, How food affects your insulin levels, nutrition overview, PCOS and stress, body image, coping with infertility, and managing other medical conditions associated with PCOS.

I would highly recommend this workbook. It is full of great information, is self paced and, at a minimum, a good review if you have previously read a lot about PCOS. I also loved reading how passionate these ladies are about educating women with PCOS. I also love educating people about PCOS. I think I have become so passionate about it because I truly feel like I am making a difference. In my case it might only be one woman at a time, but it's significant, and meaningful to that one woman (and to me)!

Thanks,

~Lisa

New Year

Happy New Year! I am looking forward to a rich, and rewarding 2011.

Along with the new year come goals for personal, and professional growth. I would love to expand the blog to cover updates in all of the areas I'm so passionate about, such as: infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), weight management, hormone therapy, etc. I would love feedback on how I can better serve my readers, and patients. Please keep the comments, and health related questions coming.

I've also been thinking about starting a local support group for people with PCOS. It would be a wonderful way to support one another, and share ideas for proactively managing PCOS and the problems associated with it (like irregular cycles, weight gain, infertility, hirsuitism, etc). I would love to hear from anyone interested!

Thanks,

Lisa
